GREAT EVERYDAY ITALIAN WINES TASTING PAGE

We love discovering new wines and attending professional wine tastings. It’s our passion and our job. It sounds easy and lots of fun but it is also work and you need to keep good notes to refer back to. After tasting a dozen  or two wines it starts to  be a big blur, so note taking and having a journal is a must. It all about training your senses and becoming focused on what your tasting that helps build your palate. I have so many journals that I refer back to on wines that I tasted and then tasted again years later to compare  how they are developing – notes that compare different vintages or wines from the same region but are worlds apart. After 25 years I am still talking notes , doodling and building my library with current information.

I need to write, not dictate to a recorder on my phone but write it down and think it through on what I’m tasting and see the written word. I then can read the notes later and get a sense of smell of what I tasted – It works for me….

Below is a sample of the Journal Bob and I put together you can buy ours on Amazon.com or use any blank pad, book but keep it organized, clean and detailed so you can refer back to it .What ever you choose  just take notes!

I like our Journals – They look good – keep you organized – keep you focused and are easy to take notes in.  I use a few of them for different topics. New Discoveries -  Every Day Wines – Vintage comparing – Wine tastings……..

Overall Review of Wine

Break down what you just tasted. Ask yourself questions that will help you understand what you just tasted. There are no right or wrong answers but take your time and develop your senses and your palate. Be honest. Keep tasting and keep notes you may taste the same wine 10 times in two years and see how your palate has developed by looking at your old notes…….

Did you like it?  If yes why?  Did you not like it ? If not why? What do I think the wine is worth ? Would I buy it or buy it again ? What would I eat with it? Is it full bodied – medium bodied – light bodied – What Aromas where prevalent, What stood out on the palate, What was the finish like , long , short ,bitter, outstanding. What was the vintage ? Did the Alcohol Content make a difference in it’s strength or flavor, was it young or old , does age make a difference? Was there oak or was it stainless steel.
