Who knows where the Italian wine industry would be today without Neil & Maria Empson?
Arriving
in Milan in 1970, it became apparent to the couple that few, if any, of
the wonderful wines they were discovering ever reached the merchants
abroad. Discerning palates the world over did not realize they were
being denied most of the truly fine Italian wines, the majority of
which did not even get beyond the border. The Italians were insular,
content with a market sufficient to eventually absorb their production.
It was the time of the quality revolution, with producers embracing new
technological advances. In the same pioneering vein, Neil Empson
Selections was formed and many small scale producers persuaded to part
with some of their vinous gems. In so doing, Neil and Maria established
a rapport with their growers of mutual esteem and trust, which with
time, blossomed into friendship.
For
more than 25 years the Empsons, have set the Italian industry on the
road to international fame and are still at the forefront of
developments, adding exciting new producers to an unparalleled
portfolio as they are uncovered. Neil is an Honorary Member of the
League of Chianti and a Knight of the Order of Truffles and Wines of
Alba. He travels the globe spreading the message and unearthing new
treasures. Maria, artist turned business woman, oversees packaging,
marketing and promotions. A number of Empson wines feature labels of
her design.

D.C. Metro Area, with warehouses in both New Jersey and California.
